Liver Transplant Co-ordinators
Royal Free Hospital
30th September 2009.
Dear Trefor,
As you may remember, a couple of years ago I approached
you and asked if the LPSG would be kind
enough to provide sponsorship so that I could complete
my Degree in Critical Care.
You kindly put my
name forward to the LPSG, and the wheels were set in
motion for me to complete the modules I required.
I completed the Critical Care BSc this year and graduated
with 'Upper Second-Class Honours', which some
people may understand as a '2:1', or a 'B'.
I am so excited and overjoyed with my result, and I
know that, without help from you and the LPSG, none
of this would have been possible.
So, I am really writing this letter to say a big, BIG
thank you to you and the LPSG for your support and
financial backing, and to let you know how grateful I
am for your assistance when it was needed.
I hope you are well, and thank you once again for
your support.
Yours sincerely,
(Signed) Suraya Cottrell
Liver Transplant Co-ordinator.

ICE-MAKING MACHINE WARD 10 NORTH
(Hassall ward)
"We are very grateful for this kind donation, this will make a huge difference to patients’ lives on the ward,” said Dr Patch.
Gift in memory of Lynne Burton.
Following Lynne Burton's death in November 2008, her
family wished to thank the ward which had cared for
her for nine years.
During Lynne's final illness, she was
often only able to sip iced drinks, but there never
seemed to be enough ice on the ward for everyone's
needs. So a commercial ice-making machine seemed
the ideal way to benefit all patients (and the staff), letting
them have cold drinks on hot days.
We consulted with the Ward Manager (at that time,
Anita) and the Housekeeper, and they were in favour of
it. Of course, bureaucracy meant that we had to jump
through various hoops for this to happen, but eventually
the machine was purchased and plumbed in.
On Friday, 18 September, we were invited by Fay from
the RFH Charity to visit the Royal Free Hospital to see
the machine in action! We were privileged to have
Keith Hunt and Dr David Patch as our hosts, and found
time to meet so many of Lynne's friends on the ward.
An emotional but wonderful visit.
So, hopefully, ice will be available whenever you want
it. Don't be afraid to ask!!
