British Transplant Games
Coventry 2009.
General comments
From 31st July to 2nd August 2009, the city of Coventry
was host to the 32nd British Transplant
Games in which 600 or so competitors, all of them
"transplantees" - together with many supporters,
family members and friends - converged on the
University of Warwick campus, on the outskirts of
Coventry.
As always, the Games celebrated "the
greatest gift, the GIFT OF LIFE", in gratitude for
the new lease of life that so many of us enjoy,
thanks to the generosity of the countless people
who have donated organs.
|
It was particularly moving to meet members of
the "donor families", whose loved ones had died
and, by donating their organs, were able to
prolong the lives of others, complete strangers for
the most part. In spite of the large numbers, it
was like one big happy family, with teams and
friends from the various "transplant hospitals" in
and around England, Wales, Northern Ireland and
Scotland, who mingled, shared 'life stories',
renewed old friendships and made new ones ...
a truly life-giving experience É and fun, too!
|

NOTE: Only eight members in team .
Please think of swelling the numbers
next year, 2010, in Bath.

|
Finally, special mention must be made of the new
black and gold (yellow) team uniforms worn by
the Royal Free team at the Coventry Games. For
these, our thanks are due to the K.P.A. (Kidney
Patients' Association) which kindly provided them
from funds available. (See photograph right).
Some personal accounts of the Games have
been promised by participants, but have not yet
been received. We look forward to reading more in
the next issue of The Liverlink.
